Advice about Medical Malpractice

Malpractice. Are you familiar with this word? I knew the word long before I ever thought I would have any kind of interest in anything to do with it.

No, malpractice is not a medical term. It did have a lot to do with my knowledge of the medical field. Surgery was where it all began. After surgery, I began learning quite a few medical terms.

Legal terms became a part of my vocabulary. It's really funny some of the words you can learn when not expected.

As long ago as the first grade in elementary school, I never expected to have anything to do with the medical field. No, I did not want to become a nurse, was what I told the other girls.

Legal is not my field, either. If you are in need of legal advice, you should definitely see a qualified professional. I have known a few of those, also. For this, you need to research and be very careful whom you choose. This is very important.

Things said and things left unsaid are also important. It is amazing things left unsaid can create such large proportions of deceit, or it could be the other way around.

Malpractice is a great, huge decision. This should not be taken into or even considered under some minor circumstances. This will affect doctors, clinics, hospitals, families, maybe even your own family.

Researching malpractice may be a good place for you start. You can find books on this subject at your local library. You will need to study in the locality in which you are considering doing this.

Laws of medical procedures would be something you will need to know. This is not for you to leave up to your legal team. Yes, it is my opinion you would need legal counsel, but it is also my opinion you must know legalities yourself.

You must know legal circumstances, so that you can be sure your legal team is doing the correct procedures for you.

This is a subject that I feel I am just scratching the surface, to begin to teach myself, and the public, more about this funny, funny word: Malpractice.

Until next time, how do you now feel about the word malpractice?

Hi, S. I am glad to hear from you again, and hope everything is good for you! I hope you never have to use this word. I did, and it's a very long story. Not really very funny, either. Thanks for reading, and I hope you voted! I haven't been getting many votes. I haven't written much yet. bj

I had to be on a jury case over a mal-practice suit years ago. It is very very difficult as a lay person to take it all in..and make a good judgment..I still wonder if I truly did the person justice? Great hub BJ G-Ma :O) hugs

So much more is still in my thoughts over the things I have been through. Many articles to come!

I hope trivial malpractice suits are a thing of the past, but I do think people should be responsible for mistakes, and especially not trying to fix mistakes they know about. bjp

Thanks. There is so much more to my story, and maybe someday it will be all told, maybe not.

People are people, even professionals. All legal matters should be something you learn as much about as possible. Like going to a doctor, you need to know what's wrong yourself, so you can help with your diagnosis.

If someone has lost his eyesight due to wrong surgery or misdiagnosis of a medical condition then the patient has every right to receive compensation which will help him recover losses.

It is not about personal enmity, but just about giving the victim rights which he deserves as per legal laws.

Interesting hub, as I have/are in both the medical and legal fields. I would have to agree with the statement above me that malpractice is about justifying a wrong that is done to oneself. However, many people have taken it to another level where they are only after the money and "fake" the injuries and claims that they have after surgery or accidents. It's difficult because it is the true victims who end up being victimized by the ones who scandal the system. Self awareness and self knowledge are the keys to protecting oneself. Do the research, understand your choices and then make a decision. That way, you are responsible for yourself without putting your health in someone else's power.
